On October 23, 2023, this week kicked off with an event I had been eagerly anticipating throughout my internship. It marked the inauguration of the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week, a three-day affair organized by the Department of Science and Technology, held at the Sorsogon Provincial Gymnasium.

The morning commenced early as we, the DICT employees, including Sir John, Sir Gerald, Ma’am Lydeline, and Ma’am Micah, alongside fellow interns, assembled to set up the DICT booth. We were equipped with wristbands and meal stubs and actively participated in the opening program.

Prior to the day's activities, Ma’am Lydeline provided us with guidance, stressing the importance of familiarizing ourselves with DICT's mission, vision, and ongoing projects. This preparation was in anticipation of potential inquiries from visitors and guests visiting our booth at the fair. Additionally, we were briefed on the procedures for the DICT-sponsored raffle, which was open to students, event coordinators, guests, and everyone attending the fair.

During the fair, I explored the different exhibits with my fellow interns, and I had the opportunity to capture a photograph with the esteemed Governor of Sorsogon, Gov. Edwin “Boboy” Hamor, concluding the morning's events.

Day 1

October 23

A glimpse into the DICT's Booth at the Regional Science and Technology Week 2023 🚀

DICT is preparing enthusiastically for the DOST's 2023 Regional Science and Technology Week, featuring an engaging booth designed to exhibit the agency's projects and programs in Region V. Get ready for an interactive experience with thrilling games and opportunities to win exciting prizes! 📣

The afternoon commenced, and I continued exploring the fair, venturing to various booths. One particular booth that immediately captured my interest was the Bicol Science High School booth. It showcased an impressive array of Lego-made robots, experiments allowing control over fire, prototypes, online games, crafts, and even programming challenges—all created by high school students.

Engaging with these students, aged 11 to 16, I had the opportunity to learn about their processes in developing these robots and games at such a young age. Their participation in contests further amazed me, prompting contemplation about the abundance of resources available to these talented individuals.

Visiting other booths, I gathered information from diverse organizations, collected pamphlets, and obtained stamps on our tickets, each contributing to our entry for the raffle on the fair's last day. Post-exploration, I returned to the DICT booth to oversee the management of the raffle activities. As the first day of the fair drew to a close, I found the experience to be novel and exhilarating.

The second day of the Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week, organized by the Department of Science and Technology, commenced today. Following the inauguration program for day 2, I assumed responsibility at the DICT booth, overseeing the application of stamps on tickets and assisting in coordinating the DICT raffle—an opportunity for all attendees visiting our booth to vie for impressive prizes.

Throughout the day, a notable observation emerged: a vast majority of fair attendees were students spanning from elementary to high school, representing various schools across the province of Sorsogon. This constituted a significant aspect of the morning's activities.

During the noon session, we requested permission to be temporarily excused from our duties at DICT. As graduating students and interns, we were mandated to attend a seminar titled "Labor Education for Graduating Students," hosted at The Lewis College Sports Gymnasium. This occasion also provided a reunion of sorts, allowing me to reconnect with classmates whom I hadn't seen in quite some time.

The seminar featured two speakers who extensively covered the essential information and expectations for graduating students transitioning into the professional workforce across various industries. They provided comprehensive insights into what to anticipate and prepare for as we step into the real world of employment.

   September 19

I was assisting Mr. John at the help desk during the Bicol Dagyaw event, specifically handling issues related to WiFi connectivity. While I was stationed there, my fellow interns were at the DICT booth in the gymnasium, managing the application of stamps on tickets and aiding in organizing the DICT raffle. This raffle presented an opportunity for all attendees visiting our booth to compete for remarkable prizes.
